John Lukaszewicz was born in Lesno, Poland. His Catholic Church was Church of the Holy Cross in Lesno, Bydgoszcz Province, Poland. The Polish name of the church is Krzyza Swietego. The wooden stave church was built in 1650. According to Stanley, Laukaszewicz's lived in the Village of Przymuszewo and went to church in Lesno.
John came to Portage County, Wisconsin, in 1861. He was with his second wife, Josephine, and three sons, Joseph, Frank and Paul. Also on the ship was his son, Peter, and Peter's family. Peter was his son from his first marriage, to Marianne. They sailed on the ship "Gilbert". John died after being in Portage County for only two months. He was 73 years old. Cannot locate his burial site. Joseph is mentioned in the Standard History of Portage County, written in 1920, under Felix Lukaszewicz.
